Follow up on 16th jun post

Hi readers,

This is a follow up on the “16th jun” post. As i said in that post, i abseiled down from Ngee Ann city…so here are some pictures of me in action…..YEAH!!

Beginning to abseil down…

Almost reaching…

All right, so that was one memorable feat…something i can tell my pupils about…haha….

Smiley :)

All right..so there really is  smiley on the top right hand corner of my blog. But it’s due to the browser.

See this pic that jojo sent me.

There really is a smiley but she’s using mozilla firefox. Maybe that’s why there’s a smiley and those (including myself) who are using Internet Explorer won’t be able to see it

RP

Went to republic poly today for a meeting with Dr mike koh. It’s been so many years since i last stepped into a polytechnic. Woah…RP is really different… looks more like a company building to me. The students at polys are so different now too….wah kau the hair can keep until so long for the guys. I remember the first day i stepped into ngee ann poly i was already asked to surrender my student card cos my hair was covering my ears and i was wearing slippers. But now, in polys, some guys’ hair is even longer than girls’. So unfair!!

Anyway, i would say the meeting was a fruitful one. To cut the long story short, RP is offering a more viable and cost effective option but like all things at this point of time, it’s really a risk and gamble. Just that RP’s option is less risky.

And jojo said there’s a super cute smiley face on the top right hand side of my blog but i can’t seem to find it. If any of you sees it too, please let me know and point to me the exact spot.

Is there something wrong with my IE or is it my eyes?

16th Jun 2007

Hi readers!!

First of all, let me congratulate myself…because i made the correct guess…the next item to have a price increase is the…ELECTRICITY TARIFFS…haha….(refer to the entry on inflation)….but hey…why am i so happy? I’m the one paying the electricity bills….

Anyway….what did i do today?? First, went rock climbing with jinlong at west coast. Sigh, haven’t been rock climbing for a year…my climbing stamina dropped so much. But still, it was good to get back into action again. The rock climbing centre that we usually visit has relocated to west coast, it’s still in the midst of renovation so there are limited climbing walls and there isn’t any abseiling wall as stated in their website. Furthermore, they don’t rent out climbing shoes anymore, which means the next time i climb i will need to purchase a pair of climbing shoes first. Normal sports shoes can’t do the job either can bare foot, obviously. Because that was what we did today, we climb using our bare feet….ouch…feels more like foot reflexology.

This is the both of us after rock climbing.

Had lunch at a hawker centre after that and headed down to town. The Singapore Adventure Race 2007 was held today with Ngee Ann Civic Plaza as the starting and ending point. So went there to have a look at the fringe activities and carnival. The atmosphere was pretty lethargic when we reached, all because of the stupid weather. It was raining since morning, therefore many activities like the skateboard and BMX challenge couldn’t be carried out. The skateboarders and BMX cyclists were all lying on the floor sleeping, playing cards or PSP. The only activity that was going on was the cable ski competition since the participants were supposed to be wet. Even the outward bound had to cajole people to try out the abseiling.

There wasn’t much to look at so we went to kinokuniya for an hour plus. When we came out from there, the rain had stopped and the civic plaza was slowly bustling with activities. Both of us were quite interested to try out the abseiling by outward bound because it was FREE and the height was 30m…about 6 storeys high. WOOO HOOO!!!

So we went to register and sign an indenmity form and all that and off we went. We had to take turns because only covered shoes are allowed and jinlong was wearing sandals, thus we had to share my shoes. I was the first to go..haha…one of the outward bound instructors took me and another guy to the 6 floor, get equipped, practised a while and off we went. Went to the abseiling platform and off i went…haha…first time abseiling down from that height…sure needs some getting used to. Accomplished it and received a certificate at the end. Jinlong took some pictures but they are still with him. Will try to get from him asap and post them here. Meanwhile take a look at the cert….haha…

sany0004.jpg

The person in the picture below is jinlong and not me..but just to show you where we abseiled from. Jinlong, quickly send me my pictures!!! By the way, he’s so lucky. He abseiled down alone, and had the whole lanes to himself….so shiok. I had to share the lane with another person and i almost went off lane.

Okay, so that was an accomplishment. After that, we walked around town and shopped for a while and that was all for today. I’m going to Sentosa tomorrow so right now i am praying for a nice and sunny weather.

Wish me luck for a nice weather, nice tan and lots of babes to look at…haha…

Tribute to the National Stadium

Hi Readers,

anyone interested to go watch a soccer match on 30th Jun, Sat at the National Stadium? It will be the last match played at the stadium before it is torn down for redevelopments.

There are 2 featured matches, one is the spore veterans like fandi ahmad vs the malaysia veterans at 5pm. Thereafter, it will be the spore national team vs australia national team. According to news reports, australia will be bringing 3 of their players based in the EPL for this match. They are mark viduka, tim cahill and harry kewell. Should be quite fun and interesting to watch and definitely worth the ticket price of $15 for these 2 matches.

There will also be a lights out disco party after the matches but you have to buy an additional ticket for that.. Don’t think i’m going for that..

So those who are interested, please leave a comment of send me a msg asap. Thanks

Weiwen gave me this book a few weeks ago when we met up. And on wednesday, i was reading it on the train while on my way to town.

Then i noticed a lady beside me was reading another book (‘The Pilgrimage’) by the same author. She looked over and then we started a short conversation. After that we went back to our books.

She got off at orchard while i was heading for city hall…but damn…shouldn’t have focused so much on the book…

National runway cycle

Went for the national runway cycle at Paya Lebar Airbase recently with Wilson. Both of us registered for the 45km endurance race….and damn….it really is a pain. Not because of the distance but because of the stupid bicycles we rented over there. The seats are really a pain in the ass….

Nonetheless, we completed the 45km.

This is wilson, one of my rock climbing kakis…another one is jinlong who just returned from a job posting from hongkong. He will be flying off to hongkong again in a month’s time. Hmm…guys..we should really get together for a rock climbing session one of these days…it’s been so long since we climbed…

Gwen Stefani – 4 in the morning

4 In The Morning

Waking up to find another day
The moon got lost again last night
But now the sun has finally had its say
I guess I feel alright
But it hurts when I think
When I let it sink in
It’s all over me
I’m lying here in the dark
I’m watching you sleep, it hurts a lot
& all I know is
You’ve got to give me everything
Nothing less cause
You know I give you all of me

CHORUS
I give you everything that I am
I’m handin’ in everything that I’ve got
Cause I wanna have a really true love
Don’t ever wanna have to go & give you up
Stay up till Four In The Morning & the tears are pouring
& I want to make it worth the fight
What have we been doing for all this time?
Baby if we’re gonna do it, come on do it right
All I wanted was to know I’m safe
Don’t want to lose the love I’ve found
Remember when you said that you would change
Don’t let me down
It’s not fair how you are
I can’t be complete, can you give me more?
& all I know is
You got to give me everything
& nothing less cause
You know I give you all of me

CHORUS
I give you everything that I am
I’m handin’ in everything that I’ve got
Cause I wanna have a really true love
Don’t ever wanna have to go & give you up
Stay up till Four In The Morning & the tears are pouring
& I want to make it worth the fight
What have we been doing for all this time?
Baby if we’re gonna do it, come on do it right
Oh please, you know what I need
Save all your love up for me
We can’t escape the love
Give me everything that you have

& all I know is
You got to give me everything
& nothing less cause
You know I give you all of me

CHORUS
I give you everything that I am
I’m handin’ in everything that I’ve got
Cause I wanna have a really true love
Don’t ever wanna have to go & give you up
Stay up till Four In The Morning & the tears are pouring
& I want to make it worth the fight
What have we been doing for all this time?
Baby if we’re gonna do it, come on do it right

(Give you everything)
(Give you all of me)

FAS wants JC, Poly footballers

It was reported in yesterday’s papers that FAS is conducting a trial for footballers in these instituitions. Smart move. Especially the move to tap into the polys. Because so many of our talented sec 4 pupils will go to polys, but once they are in polys they do not have PE lessons and it is also pretty much left up to themselves whether they would want to continue in a sport and represent the school. If they choose not to, then the pool of talents will go down. But if there are PE lessons, at least the PE teachers can help to channel or keep these talents in their respective sports.

As a poly graduate, I was bewildered by the fact that there are no PE lessons in polys (for my case, i had PE lessons only during the first semester but for most polys there aren’t even any). Having PE lessons in polys will definitely help to identify more talents for Singapore sports. So i asked this question “How come there are no PE lessons in poly?” to my lecturer during my instructional methods module. Apparently she couldn’t give me an answer, i mean she did give an answer but it didn’t answer the question. That’s an example of a PhD holder with no intellect.

But hey, at least now someone higher up the ladder has awaken. That’s good news for Singapore sports. And it should be extended to more sports, e.g. badminton, rugby, volleyball and basketball etc.

Trend

I observed that whenever something awful happened, it is usually followed by a series of similar cases. And i have a few examples to quote.

Remember few years back, there was a case where an army recruit died from a sudden cardiac arrest while doing his IPPT? Since then a number of cases happened in succession, I remember there were a few cases where people just died while running and one of the more prominent cases was about a military officer who took part in a triathlon and died when he was about to reach the finishing line.

So that’s the first example.

The second is the recent mishap of trees falling onto and killing people during extremely bad and stormy weather. If you recall hard enough, after one case happened it was followed by a few cases both locally and abroad.

The last example, is the recent drowning cases. There has been a few lately if you keep track of the news. There were cases of students drowning in the sea, couple’s kayak capsized, people whom were mysteriously drowned and their body found floating.

Strange, am i right? Misfortunes never happen alone.

And with the recent drowning cases, it was reported that more people have signed up for swimming lessons, both children and adults. Personally, i would like to sign up for some swimming lessons too. Not that i can’t swim but just that i want to be able to swim better, especially being able to swim in open seas. The reason? So that i can take part in biathlons or triathlons. It’s the swimming part that have stopped me from taking part in these events.

The recent surge in people signing up for swimming lessons also goes to show that a lot of people tend to wait for things to happen rather than anticipating what might happen and make plans for it. I think this is a common sight, in the workplace and in the people some of us know. There is just this kind of people around. And if this kind of people happens to be your superior then i guess you have a lot of covincing work to do.

Personally, i guess this boils down to a person’s foresight. Some of us have it while some don’t. And it’s those who don’t have it that creates a lot of trouble. Eg. Real madrid’s Fabio Capello. One moment he says Beckham is a lousy player and he will never start for the team again then the next moment he puts Beckham in the starting line up, praises him and now intends to pull him out from the deal to MLS.

What a joke.
